Mr. Denison Wiggins is the Assistant Superintendent of the Greenwich Infirmary, and he has written this small handbook with a view to preparing intending midwives for the requirements of the Examining Board authorized by the Midwives Act, 1902. We are glad to find him advising Midwife candidates to qualify as efficient general nurses before taking up the special branch of midwifery, the course for which is all too brief and the sphere too limited. The general nurse who has learnt surgical cleanliness and the implicit carrying out of orders, and who has been trained to observe symptoms, will make a far more reliable and skilled midwife
